a piece made in conversation with Yoko Ono’s “Yes”
While Ono wanted to channel the journey humans often take searching for positive reinforcement. I wanted to play on the pitfalls of her intention. While her ladder was sturdy, and reasonably sized, it fails to feel like any sort of true journey. I built my ladder to be steep and unbalanced, making the viewer feel apprehensive about their climb to the top to. While the notecard is attached to balloons, enticing the viewer to retrieve something seemingly pleasant, the words read, “what goes up, must come down”. The objective is to make the viewer feel cheated or toyed with; emphasizing that whether or not our journey leads to a positive outcome, everything is temporary. Do we regret the journey? Is it better to know than not know?
